What to Do During a Dental Emergency

Here’s how to manage your symptoms before your emergency appointment:

  • Toothache: Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater to reduce inflammation and flush out debris. Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed, and avoid chewing on the affected side.
  • Knocked-Out Tooth: Pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root), gently rinse it with saline or milk, avoid scrubbing. If possible, place it back into the socket. If not, keep it in milk or your own saliva and visit us immediately.
  • Chipped or Broken Tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water and save any broken fragments. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to minimise swelling and pain.
  • Lost Filling or Crown: Keep the area clean and avoid eating on that side. If the crown is intact, you can temporarily place it back over the tooth using toothpaste or dental wax until your visit.

If you’re unsure of what to do, don’t wait. Call our clinic right away for advice and to arrange urgent care.

If you’re experiencing dental pain, swelling, bleeding, or an injury. it’s important to seek care immediately. Not sure if it’s an emergency? Give our friendly team a call, and we’ll help you.

We offer same-day emergency appointments whenever possible. Contact us as early as you can so we can provide timely care and support.

Hospitals typically don’t treat dental issues. If it’s dental-related, we’re better equipped to provide care.

Most funds include some emergency dental coverage. We can check this for you at your appointment.

Tooth pain rarely resolves without treatment. Delaying care can lead to more serious problems.
